The winery was established in 1992 with the lofty vision of diversifying and value adding the business of fruit production. Colette had been very interested in wine drinking for years and had only dabbled in fairly suspect kitchen quality fermentation. When a friend invited her to 'have a go' at commercial fruit winemaking she leapt at the opportunity.
With the aid of a successful winemaker, a wine chemist, a creative plumber and mechanic, and a seemingly endless amount of money, the steep and rocky learning curve was conquered.
It was realised fairly early on that it was pointless even attempting to compete with the many fabulous dry grape wines available in the area. Therefore our range varies from a medium sweet category through to ports and most recently, a liqueur.
We have been delighted to receive Perth Royal Show awards every year since we opened the cellar door. This certainly makes us feel that we are 'doing it right'.
A recent partnership change has already had the 'blood transfusion' effect, with new ideas, new varieties and a new look. So, watch out for Colette and Kethrine in the future.... the FRUIT BATS.
